Polar S725X Review

This is a brief review of the new Polar S725x cycling/running heart rate monitor.
The Polar S725X is a great looking heart rate monitor, packed with features, and is the only complete cycling system that combines heart rate with speed, distance, altitude, ascent, cadence and optional power output.
The Polar S725X Cycling Computer is also compatible with the Polar S1 Foot Pod (for running speed and distance). This is a great feature if you are a keen runner in addition to your cycling efforts.
One feature sadly missed is the AutoStart/Stop function in other models. Other than for simplicity of recording, this feature also helped to give a much more accurate ride time for those of us who live in an urban environment full of traffic lights. With this model, when you stop at a set of traffic lights for 30seconds, the recording does not stop. For those of you trying to accurately track actual ride time, you should take this into account!
Another feature it would be great to see is an improved memory capacity. With heart rate, cadence, speed, altitude and temperature all recording at the maximum frequency of 5 seconds, the watch only allows for roughly 8 hours of training. For back to back days in the hills of 4 to 5 hours, this doesn’t cut it. Other brands of heart rate monitor can easily store more than this with an equivalent amount of data being recorded.
Polar ProTrainer 5 is a definite improvement on previous versions of the software. The ability to schedule sessions was a much need feature of the software, which helps to eliminate the need for multiple software packages to manage your training simply. The interface is much more user friendly and still as stable as ever.
All in all, this is a great product that should help you train smarter and keep up some of the motivation to get out there and ride! When you’ve finished, you can even check out all the great data you have produced!
